Dance & Musical Theatre

The schools performance company is ‘Octagon Dance and Musical Theatre Company’. We usually put on several performances during the year. Our main school performance is staged in July at The Maltings in Ely. Some of our previous productions include ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Old Time Music Hall’, ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’, ‘The Jewelled Slipper’, ‘The Firebird’, ‘Swanhilda and the Magic Toy Shop’ our version of ‘Coppelia’, A Christmas Carol’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘La Boutique Fantasque’, ‘The Nutcracker’ and La Fille mal gardee. A member of staff writes the productions especially for the school in order that all the different genres and most of the pupils can be included.

During August, as part of our summer school contemporary dance workshop week ‘Dance Divine,’ the participating dance students and The Goldsmith Singers, who also have workshops during the same week, give a lunchtime performance in Ely Cathedral. ‘Dance Divine’ is now an annual event on the Cathedral’s calendar.

In the autumn our senior and adult students are given the opportunity to perform again at The Maltings, usually with a more up-beat cabaret style performance. We also have an annual Christmas Concert at St Peters Church where our choirs and musicians perform a traditional blend of Christmas songs and music.
